Black Stripe

There are moments when I wish my eye could be a camera.
This week Bells finished Karate. Her teacher is amazing. She understands the kids and how to best teach them. She made learning fun and rewarding, yet asked for respect.  I was very impressed with the older kids and how they took Bells under their wings.( I discovered Raquel is actual shy in new situations. She is not one to run and join other kids. But will sit at the side till someone invites her. I was a bit surprised to learn this about her) I am really bummed we did not find this class sooner and that I can not transplant Mrs. Karen to Midland, TX.
At the end of class the students line up and take turns bowing and shaking hands with Mrs. Karen. When she than makes a comment on their performance. I was not expecting what happened next. She adorned Bells' white belt with a black stripe! (The white belt represents innocents, the black strip represents her grow in skills.)  She came away running to me exclaiming her excitement. It was a great moment! I was proud of her.
We talked about how she felt and how at times she didn't want to go. I hope she is learning that as you work at something even at times you don't want to it can pay off.
